Seg\u00fan mi parecer quedan en la actualidad tres grandes misterios por explicar: lo grande<\/strong> (El universo), lo peque\u00f1o<\/strong>(El mundo a escala cu\u00e1ntica) y la mente humana<\/strong>. La mayor\u00eda de la investigaci\u00f3n que se hace hoy en d\u00eda tiene como prop\u00f3sito final indirecto ayudar a resolver alguno de estos problemas. <\/p>\n

Por ejemplo, dentro la revoluci\u00f3n de la biolog\u00eda\/gen\u00e9tica<\/strong> de los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os una de las l\u00edneas de investigaci\u00f3n es entender la relaci\u00f3n entre nuestros genes y nuestro cerebro<\/strong>. Uno de los grandes problemas de la medicina<\/strong> es el poco conocimiento del cerebro<\/strong>. Dentro del mundo de la inform\u00e1tica<\/strong> uno de los “sue\u00f1os finales” es crear un m\u00e1quina que sea capaz de pensar como una mente humana<\/strong>. Los f\u00edsicos<\/strong> intentan unir las teor\u00edas que explican lo grande<\/strong> y lo peque\u00f1o<\/strong>. Y as\u00ed lo pod\u00e9is ir aplicando a casi cualquier otra disciplina y ver\u00e9is que el inter\u00e9s principal de la humanidad es entendernos a nosotros mismos (mente principalmente) y entender el universo (lo grande y lo peque\u00f1o).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Marvin Minsky<\/a> es uno de los mayores entendidos en el mundo sobre el funcionamiento del cerebro y uno de sus objetivos finales es conseguir “copiar una mente humana dentro de un ordenador”. A continuaci\u00f3n algunos extractos de uno de sus escritos:<\/p>\n

\nWill robots inherit the earth? Yes, but they will be our children. We owe our minds to the deaths and lives of all the creatures that were ever engaged in the struggle called Evolution. Our job is to see that all this work shall not end up in meaningless waste.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\nIf we want to consider augmenting our brains, we might first ask how much a person knows today. Thomas K. Landauer of Bell Communications Research reviewed many experiments in which people were asked to read text, look at pictures, and listen to words, sentences, short passages of music, and nonsense syllables. They were later tested in various ways to see how much they remembered. In none of these situations were people able to learn, and later remember, more than about 2 bits per second, for any extended period. If you could maintain that rate for twelve hours every day for 100 years, the total would be about three billion bits<\/strong> — less than what we can store today on a regular 5-inch Compact Disk. In a decade or so, that amount should fit on a single computer chip.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
