According to a BBC news
release, a UK ROV called ISIS
is being prepared for a 6.5km dive to the floor of the Antarctic waters.
The ROV will help scientists study the effects of glaciers on the ocean
floor and look for new species of animals living in the waters. ISIS was
built with the help of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI)
in the US. The 2.7m, 3000kg ROV is based at the UK Deep Submergence ROV
Facility where you can find additional photos of
the ROV as well as see details of the robot's technical
specifications.
