China has entered the ranks of the countries aiming to build androids.

A new 168-cm, 60-kg “beauty” robot who has not yet been named looks stunning in a scarlet wedding garment. She can act as a tour guide, a receptionist, or a toastmaster.

Her face, made of glass fibre reinforced plastic, incorporates the beautiful facial characteristics of cover girls. And her eyes can move.

This “beauty” robot is destined to be the receptionist at the Sichuan Science Museum.

Li Chengrong, the main designer of the robot, says that while the robot costs about 37500 US$ to design and make, the cost could be cut down to about a third of that amount if at least 100 robots were to be mass-produced each year.
